Alcohol and Stomach Problems

Alcohol increases acid production by the cells in the stomach. As a result, seniors who drink heavily often experience acute gastritis. The result is nausea and vomiting. This in turn can throw an older person’s electrolytes out of balance and lead to dehydration.
